Big in Thailand (pirate market)

Sarah dropped me this note: "I was just in Thailand, I saw that shirt in most of the places they sell touristy things - from Bangkok to Chiang Mai to some of the islands in the south."

Hehe. It´s sort of funny. I know the Threadless gang has had a lot of problems with these t-shirt pirates and I´ve got the impression that they don´t find it amusing at all. My Threadless shirt has been around on ebay for a while, now it´s coming to a cheap street-seller near you. I understand that Threadless find it annoying that they can´t charge you $15++ for it. Anyway the Threadless shirts are the best quality in the world so if you got any good taste at all you will buy it from them...

BTW: I handed in this new illustration yesterday. Comment on my Flickr page. Thanks.

2 new illustrations, ipod and Jericho

I did two new illustrations at the end of this week: Brian Jones and three kings. My flickr page also features my sons new card game project. He´s a great and inspiring artist.

I went and bought a 30 GB video-ipod this autumn. I used to think that I didn´t need one of those since I have almost no spare time at all but the truth is I use it ALOT. Ofcourse it´s nice to have music wherever you go but the videofunction is really underrated! I read somewhere that surveys shows that nobody really uses the videofunction. I do! If you´re a TV-series-addict like me you can watch the last (bunch of) episodes whenever and wherever you have the time. I also love the podcasts, following radioshows and news/fanstuff when I´m working or washing the house.

Finally, tip of the day: If you´re looking for a new tv-series to get hooked on you should try out Jericho from CBS. It´s good.

New illustration and Flickr love/rant

I handed in a new illustration yesterday. Check it out at my Flickr page. I could try to explain the idea or story behind it but... I think I´ll skip that.
Flickr is my new portfolio now. I can´t keep the old one updated. And I can really get used to the great community for artists/illustrators over there at Flickr. Too bad then that the Flickr admin people has banned me for posting most doodles and drawings and not enough photos. Well I´m not fully banned (I pay for that shit!) but my images wont get listed by tags or in any listings. I guess they prefer their users posting endless partyreports, flowers and pictures of kids eating and/or playing with water. Too bad really. Flickr doesn´t know what they´ve got. Or they doesn´t fully appreciate their user culture/subculture. If I had to guess, I´d say it has something to do with the Google Map/Earth coop. I understand that my doodles may be irrelevant on a world map. They could easily work themself around that with a special "illustration" tag or something. Now they ban illustrators from all tag features.

Anyway. We still love it.

Calendar 07 illustrations

I finished a bunch of illustrations today, it´s for a 2007 calendar from the waste managment business (not in the Sopranos meaning of that term). It´s a story of a year with a young man moving home to his lazy slacker dad trying to get the old man act more conscious about recycling and sorting the trash. See the illustrations at my Flickr-portfolio.

So whats up?
We are working on a wiral/community project for the Insomnia Festival these days. Looking forward to share it with you. Coming soon. What else? I´m working on the graphic design of Tromsø International Film Festival creating illustrations, flyers, ads, posters etc for this years festival. The overall profile (Logo, typo etc) is done by Bleed a few years back. And? Also working with material for the Tromsø cinemateque Verdensteatret. Ads, flyers and monthly posters.

Three new illustrations and TV update

Some new illustration work handed in today:
- Venus
- A winner
- Digestive system

Apart from that: spending too much time trying to keep track of all the stuff I´ve missed of good television the last few years. I realize that I´ve spent far too little time in front of the TV. (That said - I prefer watching the series on DVD anyway.) Have caught up on Sopranos, Prison Break, Lost, Arrested Development, Deadwood. Currently looking into The Wire, Rome and Carnivale. What else did I miss?

Obi shirt back in stock

Threadless.com Product - Obi Wan KerisstMy first submission to Threadless, the Obi Wan Kerrist shirt, is back in stock! You can actually order the shirt right here and right now. Click this link and order your new fav textile threads. The nice people at Threadless will ship it neat and quick to wherever you are on the planet.

If you want a blue shirt you can look for pirate versions over at Ebay. I don´t think those asian pirates have the same high quality on their textiles as Threadless has, but who knows?

Illustration : The Danish Dream

dk_small.jpgI did a new magazine illustration on friday, you can have a look at it in the portfolio. The subject was an article about norwegian identity and Danskebåten, Norwegians going til Denmark to drink and eat Danish salami.

Looking at it now I can see that the character on this one is somewhat inspired of my intensive study of the series Sopranos the last few weeks. It´s not supposed to be an illustration of James Gandolfini but I guess the reference is quite obvious (though unintended!). Season 6 of Sopranos is great so far. It´s more comic than the previous seasons, isn´t it? Great anyway.

I´m working on a bunch of illustrations for an upcoming book, an instructive book explaining politics for children. I´m looking forward to sharing them on the portfolio within a few weeks.

My friends in Lost At Last is in the studio these days recording new heavy metal classics. Read their studio-diary over at their myspacepage. I´ve heard a clip from the new recording, it´s amazing. If there´s any justice in the world this will be a real hit.

Stolen obi wan

Hey, the obi wan illustration is stolen and distributed on pirate shirts? Check it out at ebay!

Update: I spoke to the people at Threadless about this, it happens a lot with their shirt designs. They get stolen and printed/distributed in Asia (a company called Playground?) and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

"These ebay stores are just selling these designs from Playground, but aren't the ones making them. I've sent emails to sellers and ebay and the items get removed, but it seems like the same issues keep popping up."

Offline work

Although I enjoy working on webprojects it's great to do some work offline and offscreen. A sample of the latest analogue work can be seen here: robocop and viking, two magazine illustrations.

I've put quite a lot of work into book covers the last weeks, they will appear in the portfolio when the books are published. The publisher is N.W. Damm & Søn AS.

Your personal shopping-assistant

Happy monday. Another illustration is shipped: Lost

I'm having a hard time resisting the new PSP these days, especially after the GTA Liberty City Stories appeared on every shelf. Well, I haven't ordered one yet. ("Don't follow the white light!")

I bought some other stuff (to compensate?), here's some shopping advice:
Marx Brothers, Down By Law, Jonathan Strange, Bob Fingerman and Sopranos.
It's all worth it, trust me.

Oh, I also bought a few new shirts, Threadless is having a $10 sale again.

Portfolio updates

I'm a lucky guy: these days I do more and more illustrations, posters, book-covers, cd-covers, vinyl covers, t-shirts and other stuff that I love working with. I expanded my portfolio with a section for CDs and books. I will add more to the categories soon, some older work and some that are in progress right now.
Oh. And two new magazine illustrations are added today. "Borgerlig" and "Safari".

Stats gone mad

My stats for this site has gone real crazy the last year. 17.000 visitors each month is slightly more than expected. One reason seems to be that Google has found my illustrations from the portfolio. In addition there seems to be something called myspace.com where there is a culture for posting img tags with absolute URLs. People show off art, illustrations and images that they've bumped into on the net. It's actually quite interesting and my work is in company with several of my favourite artists plus a lot of stuff I've never seen before. Example here, here and here. (Most of the myspace users seem to be there to show of and/or get laid. In other words: some good old humankind for you.)

Getting Kickstarted

This autumn is really getting started. Days at work are busy, creative and productive.

I've added three new illustrations to the portfolio. I'm talking about this, this and this.

It's allways exciting and a bit disturbing when Marcomedia release a new version of Flash. Yesterday Flash 8 was launched and I look forward to putting it into use.

Lots of interresting projects are at my desk, among them some webprojects, a Flash site, a book cover, a Flash game and several posters and t-shirt projects.

You got to have this shirt

My Threadless.com Submission I'm still hanging around on threadless.com. My latest submission is up today, it's a contribution to the Loves Threadless competition featuring a band called June. My previous submission got kicked out but I put quite some effort into this one, wouldn't mind seeing it printed. Vote for the shirt. Thanks.

A new T-shirt submission

Threadless.com Submission - Insected
Here's another submission at Threadless.com. I don't expect to win with this one (as I did with the last one? Drats! That competition is hard!)
I just like the look of this, maybe I'll print a few copies myself one day if the Threadless team don't enjoy it.

Magazine illustrations and VJ shots

These are Interesting Times. I just finished two new magazine illustrations: Middle class and Helping hand.

Also added to the PORTFOLIO is a new category: video with 8 shots from the Autoband concert at Kaos this month. Photos are taken by the good Bernt Simen Lund and Tørbjørn Ingvaldsen.

Time for magazine illustrations

It's monday morning, 8:56. I'm here to tell you that I handed in two new illustrations before the weekend. You can have a look here: Canon and Polar explosion. That's how it works. Thanks to Gjermund for brushing up my Photoshop skills, that came in real handy this time.

I spend nights searching the internet for abstract and obscure footage for my videocollages for the upcoming Autoband concert. The concert date is blury, it may end up at friday the 13th (of may). I'll let you know.

5 awards in "Sterk reklame"

We (my company Tank Design) brought home 5 awards from the norwegian design competition "Sterk Reklame 2005". I won a diploma for misc magazine illustrations ("best of 2004") and we got two diplomas for Flash site work: 6DIV and K1.

The other two awards were silver in the category graphic design. It's because I work together with the greatest graphic designers... More here.

Sunday with Nick Cave and some illustration work

Two sundays illustrations. Jesus Wan Kenobi. One more coming up soon. Gotta eat first. Um. That new Nick Cave record. I mean, it's good but. Has he gone religious? Well. Guess it's not that big a surprise. The gospel was an ok inspiration for that Jesus character too.

Update at 20:09
The other illustration was a simpler one: hand.

I've added a category in the portfolio app (Graphic Design). Some of the work I've done recently just won't fit in the other categories.

Magazine illustrations: Tsunami & daVinci

And two more magazine illustrations are done: Tsunami and daVinci. Added to the portfolio.

I still enjoy life in Los Santos. Actually I've moved to another state now, San Fierro. The Grove Street gang isn't doing to well these days, I'm afraid. Until the Big Payback I'm staying at the countryside, living hillbilly-life to the max.

The comments-function on this page is a joke. I'm BOMBED by comment spammers all day and your comments will probably drown among them and never be found. That really stinks, I totally agree. Until I get some working Movable Type Extention to filter it out I will skip the whole comments-tag.

Update 26.01.05:

A nice flash app for the comments input is supposed to stop spam. Let's give it a try. Comments are up again!

work and life in Los Santos

Okay, it's that time of the month again. Illustrations time. Here's three new magazine illustrations from my hand:

Surf, Judge and Cone Head.

In the popculture department:
(PS2) Evenings an nighthours are spent cycling around on BMX i San Andreas. The new GTA game from Rockstar Games gives new hope for humanity. It's such a masterpiece of creative work, I'm astonished.
(DVD) More happy violence: I've decided to watch all Sopranos episodes from start. Thanks to dusin for lending me the DVDs.

New illustrations

Two new illustrations on their way to print this week. One of them can be seen by clicking here. It's been added to the portfolio page as well.

Well. What else. It's thursday. I have a shitload of work to be done by friday at 14.00. When all that is done we're having a GTA GALORE (warming up to the release of San Andreas later this month) here at the office before the concert with the brilliant band Elektrofant.

Friday update: Here's the other illustration.
